Loan watch: Mumba on target in first start for South Shields

Bali Mumba was left buzzing after he opened his South Shields account on Tuesday evening.

The youngster, who is on loan with the Mariners until the end of the season, scored the game’s only goal against rivals Nantwich town as Shields moved nine points clear at the top of the BetVictor Northern Premier League.

After joining only last week, the England youth international has wasted no time getting up to speed – netting on his first start for the club after making his debut off the bench at Bamber Bridge last Saturday.

Speaking to safc.com, the 18-year-old shed light on the emotion he felt when he scored his first senior goal before talking about what he hopes to achieve while on loan at Mariners Park.

“I was buzzing after that,” he said.

“It was good to get the goal because in my first game when I came on, I was dying to score.

“Obviously it didn't come but this game was a great one to get it in with us winning 1-0 as well. I'm very happy with that.

“I've got to get used to the physicality,” he continued.

“My arms and legs are sore but it's part of learning, you have to get on with it and keep pushing.

“It’s an experience that is going to help me big time in the long run.

“The physicality is good, and it’s taught me so far that you have just got to get up and keep fighting.”
