North of the border: Standout Nelson nets again

Andrew Nelson was on the scoresheet and won a penalty during Falkirk’s 4-1 win over Greenock Morton on Saturday.

The striker also struck the woodwork during a man-of-the-match display at Falkirk Stadium, as he continued to impress for the Scottish Championship side.

Nelson, who lined up against Rangers at Ibrox last weekend, has now scored twice in 10 games for the Bairns while also supplying two assists since moving north of the border.

And speaking after Saturday’s win, the on-loan Sunderland man is targeting further victories before the end of the campaign.

“We wanted to go out and do our best, dominate the game, and in the first half I thought we did that very well,” said Nelson.

“Going ahead early built confidence and we raised the tempo more, and though they pushed at times we reacted to it.”

He continued: “If we can keep up the consistently, and produces performances like that, we’ll definitely climb the table.

“We’ve still got a lot to play for and we don’t want to be any further down than we are now, so we’re going to be fighting until the end of the season.

“I saw the keeper come off his line so I knew if I could get it over him it would go in, and I managed to keep myself calm and lift it over him.

“I was unlucky that it [the second] didn’t go in, but we were pleased with the game today.”
