Sunderland under-23s secured a seismic boost in the race for survival in the Premier League 2 on Sunday, defeating Leicester City 4-1 at the Stadium of Light.

Check out the reaction from the development team boss Elliott Dickman below. Alternatively, watch his post-match interview in full above.

Elliott, a big win and a big three points there on Sunday…

ED: “We got an early goal which settled their nerves. The lads knew it was an important game but it is still not over. Derby have two games left but I suppose after last week we were just looking for a performance from the boys.”

A reaction it’s fair to say you got…

ED: “100%. It wasn’t like us at Old Trafford last Friday but that was more like us today. I wish we were like that on a consistent basis. That is the nature of the beast though at this level, sometimes when you are working with young players they are terrific but others you are left scratching your head thinking how did we play so poorly.”

The three points sets us up nicely going down to Swansea next Monday…

ED: “Definitely. It won’t be an easy match because they have had a terrific campaign. They got promoted last season so we know it will be a tough game. If we show the same sort of commitment and attitude then I think we will be fine.”
