U20 World Cup:
Woud helps New Zealand to victory

Michael Woud completed 90 minutes as New Zealand collected their first victory at the U20 World Cup to boost their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.

The Kiwi’s enjoyed the perfect start with Myer Bevan scoring a speculative strike after just 45 seconds. Bevan advanced from midfield and unleashed a thunderous strike which soared into the net off the bar.

Honduras were rocked and it told again at the midway point in the half, Hunter Ashworth looped his header over Javier Delgado to double New Zealand’s grip on the match.

But Woud was helpless to denying Darixon Vuelto from halving their lead. The Honduras striker saw his initial effort rebound off the bar but made no mistake as he swiftly followed in.

New Zealand, though, showed their steely determination to strike back and restore their two-goal advantage in the 56th minute.

Bevan confidently dispatched a penalty after a tangle in the box to secure the Kiwi’s victory and send them on the brink of the last 16.
