Dickman's preview: Give everything and have no regrets

Elliott Dickman has urged his players to leave everything they have on the pitch when his side face Porto this evening.

Sunderland under-23s host FC Porto at the Stadium of Light tonight, kick-off 7pm, looking to lift the club’s first International crown.

Standing in their way, though, are a technically strong Portuguese club who have waltzed their way into the final having conceded just once in five Premier League International Cup matches.

And speaking to safc.com, Dickman highlighted the class of Porto but insisted if his players are to make history then they will have to leave the field with no regrets.

“The main thing is to have no regrets,” he stated.

“Have no regrets and just go out there and (give everything) and when you walk in after the game you know you have given the best you can.

“You know you couldn’t have given any more and that you have left everything out there, physically, technically and tactically.

“It is just a case of making sure they don’t have any regrets and enjoy the occasion.

“(We want them to) enjoy it but it is going to be tough because it is a football game at the end of the day.

“We want to try to win it,” he continued.

“For some of these boys this could be the highlight of their career.

“20,000 plus people are going to be there. It is a final and their own motivation should be driving them forward.

“The big thing from me is to enjoy it and have no regrets.”
