Ready to go: Asoro relishing Porto showdown

Joel Asoro is itching to bring success Sunderland, insisting he wants to provide the golden touch that can defeat Porto tonight.

The Stadium of Light hosts the Premier League International Cup final this week, with over 20,000 red and white fans set to turn up to support the young Lads.

Swedish star Asoro has scored three times in the European competition this season, netting the decisive goal at Norwich City in the semi-final which kept alive Sunderland’s dreams of silverware.

Speaking to safc.com, the 18-year-old revealed is he feeling relaxed ahead of Wednesday’s final and is dreaming over producing a match-winning display.

“I’m really excited about it because we have worked so hard to get to the final,” he said.

“It is the kind of match you always want to play in, a final, with so much as stake so I’m looking forward to it.

“Training has been good and the lads are looking to the match.

“I have scored a few goals in this tournament and another one, especially if it was a match-winner, would mean so much.

“Porto will be tough but we have already beaten some great sides on our way to the final,” he continued.

“To play in front of so many Sunderland fans will be a nice experience so we should enjoy it and thrive under the pressure.”
