Young Lions:
Embleton confident of Toulon glory

Elliot Embleton believes there is no reason why England under-20s can’t retain their Toulon crown.

The young Lions face Ivory Coast in the final tomorrow, kick-off 4.30 BST, looking to successfully defend their title after clinching it last year for the first time in 22 years.

Embleton, who has played a pivotal role in the young Lions’ quest for international glory, handed Neil Dewsnip’s side an important two-goal cushion against Scotland yesterday, either side of Harvey Barnes’ brace to seal a 3-0 win in the semi-finals.

But as attentions swiftly turn to Saturday’s finale, the 18-year-old starlet has admitted he is revelling in the thought of international glory.

“It is an unbelievable feeling to score for your country,” he said.

“Especially in a semi-final and that makes it even better as it helped see us through to the final.

“It is another great achievement for myself this season to get into another final, but to reach an international one is even better.

“Being able to represent your country in a final like this is a great honour,” he continued.

“We are all very confident going into the match tomorrow because the team has shown quality throughout the tournament.

“If we can continue to play like we have done in the final then we will definitely have a great chance of winning it.

“The future is very bright.

“For two England youth teams to be in finals of two of the biggest international tournaments shows that we have high quality teams and players coming through.”
