Foot to the floor: Patterson targets final push

Anthony Patterson believes Saturday’s clean sheet over Swansea City provides the under-18s with the perfect platform to end the season on a high.

The stopper replaced New Zealand international Michael Woud at the break, and kept a solid grip on the Black Cats’ defensive resolve, guiding them to a pleasing 2-0 victory.

Up to fifth in the Premier League merits group as well, the young guns find themselves four points behind leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers with three games left.

And with just two defeats from their last five matches, the first-year scholar has revealed his team-mates must give everything as the season enters its climax.

“It was nice to get the win because the lads gave everything,” he said.

“In the past few weeks we haven’t got the results we probably should’ve done but the three points over Swansea is good.

“It was nice to keep a clean sheet as well, I came on at half-time with the scores still level so to help the team to three points is good.”

“We have picked up four points in our last two and conceded just one goal,” he continued.

“If the lads continue to give everything in our final three games then we should be able to have a strong finish.”
