CHARITY SHIELD: Lads make history

Charity Shield: 1936

Sunderland won the Charity Shield in 1936 for the only time in their history when they defeated Arsenal at Roker Park.

Goals from Eddie Burbanks and Raich Carter proved enough for the Lads to see off the Gunners 2-1 on Wearside.

There were 11,500 people in attendance that afternoon at Roker Park to witness the Lads make history, and a feat which hasn’t been achieved since.
