DIVISION ONE: Champions of England

Division One: 1891-92

Sunderland AFC clinched their first Division One title in 1891-92 when they brushed aside all who opposed them to finish five points at the top.

Managed by Tom Watson, the Lads won all 13 home league games and both home FA Cup ties during the season.

Johnny Campbell netted 32 league goals in 24 appearances as Sunderland struck 93 league goals in just 26 matches, and the Lads were rampant throughout scoring six or more goals on four occasions against Derby County, Darwen (twice) and Blackburn Rovers.

It was a memorable achievement as Sunderland’s pass and move style saw them make easy work en route to earning their first league title.
