PROFILE

Born in Hendon, Raich Carter captained Sunderland as they clinched the First Division title in 1936.

He went on to score in the FA Cup final in 1937, a 3-1 victory over Preston North End. 

Carter scored 127 times for the club and represented England 13 times alongside Stanley Matthews, scoring an impressive seven goals.
