An outstanding goalscoring midfielder and one of Sunderland’s best local discoveries, Gordon Armstrong gave over a decade of service at Roker during which time he qualified as one of the club’s top ten appearance makers.
Born on Tyneside, Armstrong supported Sunderland as a youngster and he acheived a lifelong dream six months before his 16th birthday when he signed for the Black Cats. He made is debut two years later and never looked back playing a key role during an 11-year spell on Wearside, during which time the club reached the 1992 FA Cup final.
