Born in Dumfries, David Halliday hit the ground running on Wearside scoring 10 goals in his first four appearances.

He went on to become the fastest player in league history to score 100 First Division goals, taking a staggering 101 games.

He scored 165 times in total for the club – 43 alone in the 1928-29 campaign – and is Sunderland’s third all-time top goalscorer.
