Club Treasures: Miners' Lamp from Cardiff City FC

You can see a giant Miners’ Lamp outside the ticket office building at the Stadium of Light.

Built on the site of the old Wearmouth Colliery, part of the reason for Sunderland AFC’s home being named the Stadium of Light is in tribute to the miners who worked there and the region’s role in inventing and developing the various miners’ safety lamps.

This one was presented to Sunderland by Cardiff City 48 hours after the club had won the FA Cup in 1973.

On that occasion, the Wearsiders had fulfilled an outstanding league fixture at Cardiff’s Ninian Park, a 1-1 draw securing Cardiff’s safety from relegation.

Q. Where is it displayed?

A. Stadium of Light, Quinn's Bar.
