Robbin completed his two-year switch to the Stadium of Light in August 2017 when he signed as a free transfer.
Born in Amsterdam, the goalkeeper rose through the ranks at FC Volendam before making his first-team debut in November 2009.
Now 30, he impressed with the Dutch outfit and almost helped them to promotion to the Eredivisie during the 2010-11 season via the play-offs.
But after ‘the other Oranje’ lost out to VVV-Venlo and finished 12th the following season, Ruiter opted to join top-tier side Utrecht on a free transfer in 2012.
The stopper immediately forged a name for himself with a standout debut against Feyenoord, and he enjoyed a successful five seasons Stadion Galgenward, during which Utrecht qualified for the UEFA Europa League on two occasions and he made 138 appearances.
A collarbone injury ruled him out of the majority of last season, but he still managed to make 15 top-tier appearances before leaving the club at the end of the campaign.
The Dutchman made 21 appearances in his first season at the Stadium of Light.
