Preview: Lasses host Southampton

Sunderland Women are on home soil once again as they host Southampton FC Women at Eppleton in the Barclays Women’s Championship (KO 2pm).

The Lasses currently occupy the top league spot while the Saints sit third in the table, with just one point separating the two sides.

Team news

Jessica Brown received her fifth yellow card of the season against Lewes and is therefore suspended for this fixture. Louise Griffiths is also still serving the final match of her three-game suspension.

Opposition

While the Lasses currently occupy the top league spot, Southampton sit third in the table, with just one point separating the two sides.

The Saints have earned nine points in their previous five games, beating Birmingham 2-1 last time out at St. Andrew’s, with Molly Pike and Katie Wilkinson’s goals cancelling out Ivana Fuso’s opener.

Wilkinson and Sophia Pharoah both have scored six goals in the division this season, with the former also registering five assists.

Marianne Spacey-Cale’s side did beat the Black Cats in the FA Cup earlier this year, but the Lasses won the reverse league fixture 1-0 at St. Mary’s courtesy of a goal from Jenna Dear.
