Preview: Lasses travel to Charlton

Sunderland Women make the trip to the Oakwood to face Charlton Athletic Women in the Barclays Women’s Championship on Sunday (KO 12pm).


The Lasses drew 1-1 last time out against Sheffield United Women at Eppleton, with Abbey Joice scoring a second-half equaliser.


The fixture falls on Women’s Football Weekend. The game last season saw Mel Reay’s side earn a 1-1 draw away at Watford.




Charlton are currently third in the division with 30 points from 16 games, scoring 28 and conceding 19.


Unbeaten in the last four games, the Addicks drew 1-1 during the week against Blackburn Rovers Ladies, with Freda Ayisi scoring a 67th minute equaliser away from home.


Melissa Johnson is one of the league’s leading scorers with eight goals to her name so far this season, with Emily Simpkins on six for the season.
