SAFC Women: Reay on pre-season wrap

With pre-season drawn to a positive close, Mel Reay gave her reaction to a solid 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest Women at Eppleton on Sunday.

The win made it four wins from four in pre-season with the Wear Derby against Durham Women awaiting next week in the Barclays Women’s Championship opener, and Reay highlighted the positives in tough conditions today.

“I thought it was tough,” the Women’s Head Coach said.

“The conditions played their part but we got what we wanted out of the game.

“We mixed it up a little bit tactically and switched between different formations and different personnel, and I was really pleased with the outcome.

Goals from Grace McCatty, Louise Griffiths and Katy Watson ensured another victory, and the Lasses manager was pleased with the quality on display, despite a number of key players missing.

“The squad’s coming along nicely, and let’s not forget, Neve Herron, Keira Ramshaw, Abbey Joice and Meg Beer were all missing today as well.

“We’ve built a really good squad and we’re absolutely delighted with the additions that we’ve brought in.

“We’ve got a really competitive squad of 21 players who are desperate to get into the XI which gives me a real headache, but it’s a headache I want to have.”
