Sunderland AFC Women is delighted to confirm the signing of Danielle Brown from Durham Women.
The forward returns to Wearside having initially represented the club as a youngster, and signs a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
Brown bolsters Mel Reay’s squad as another player with crucial Championship experience, having featured as a trialist in recent pre-season matches for the Lasses.
Upon completing the move back to red and white, Brown said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be back here at Sunderland and especially with Mel and Steph, exceptional coaches who I have loved playing for previously.
“I feel like as a player I have matured a lot since being here before, so I can bring a lot more to the team and bring experience at this level whilst continuing to learn.
“My previous time at Sunderland saw me more in a defensive role, but I have been far more attacking since and I feel like I bring speed, skill and goal contributions to the side.”
SAFC Women General Manager Alex Clark echoed the delight to secure Brown’s return: “It’s vitally important to bring a player of Danielle’s stature to the squad.
“She’s a young player but still one with plenty of experience at this level – she knows the club, the league and the coaching staff, so she can be a really good acquisition.”
Brown will wear the number 10 shirt for the Lasses during the 2022-23 season. The deal is subject to all regulatory processes.
