Loan deal: Embleton moves to Derby

Sunderland AFC confirms that Elliot Embleton has joined Derby County on loan.

The attacking midfielder will spend the duration of the 2023-24 campaign at Pride Park Stadium, as he continues his comeback from a long-term injury.

An Academy of Light graduate, Embleton played a starring role in the Club’s 2021-22 promotion-winning campaign, scoring nine goals and contributing six assists in 40 appearances.

The 24-year-old ended an unforgettable season by scoring the opening goal in a Play-Off final victory over Wycombe Wanderers at Wembley Stadium, as he secured a second promotion in as many years after helping Blackpool reach the second tier in May 2021.

Embleton made 23 appearances in the Sky Bet Championship last season, but his campaign ended abruptly due injury in December and the midfielder has since undergone a lengthy rehabilitation from ankle surgery.

Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman said: “Elliot is returning from a long-term injury and it’s important that we get him back up to speed as quickly as possible, but to do that we felt that he needed minutes. After Derby’s approach, we discussed the move with Elliot and agreed that this was a move and environment that suited his immediate requirements. We look forward to supporting his continued return to action from afar and we will review his progress in January.”

All at SAFC we wish Elliot the best of luck during his time at Pride Park.
