Team News: Mason Burstow trains ahead of Huddersfield Town

Sunderland welcome Huddersfield Town to the Stadium of Light on Wednesday evening in the Sky Bet Championship as they look to extend their unbeaten home run to three matches.

Mark Venus stepped in for Head Coach Tony Mowbray who missed the press conference due to an illness.

“He's got a chest infection, hopefully, he will be with us tomorrow, and we need him there as well,” Venus added.

The First Team coach provided an injury update on Mason Burstow going into tomorrow’s fixture against the Terriers.

“He has been training over the last two or three days, so I think he will be in the squad.”

Chris Rigg is available again following international duty with England and could feature against Huddersfield.

Venus added, “Yes, he has come back from the World Cup with England U17, and he trained today. He's an amazing kid with a great attitude and he trains every day like he plays.

“He's part of the future so we must mould him and look at what's best for him and that goes for all of our young players really.”

Venus confirmed the Black Cats will be without Aji Alese, Jay Matete, Corry Evans and Timothée Pembélé as they continue to recover from their long-term injuries.
