Play-off preview: Second leg clash at Kenilworth Road

Sunderland make the trip to Kenilworth Road on Tuesday for part two of the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off semi-final with a one-goal advantage over Luton Town (KO 8pm).

The Lads secured a 2-1 first-leg victory on Saturday in front of a sea of Red & White, with Amad’s scintillating strike and Trai Hume’s glancing header cancelling out Elijah Adebayo 11-minute goal.

Team news

Tony Mowbray has confirmed that both Alex Pritchard and Patrick Roberts are “touch and go” for tomorrow’s game.

Aji Alese is also in contention to make the matchday squad tomorrow following an extended period out through injury.

Opposition

Luton Town made the Play-Offs last season following a sixth-placed finish but lost out over two legs to Huddersfield. The game at Kenilworth Road ended 1-1, with the Terriers’ Daniel Sinani scoring the opener, only for Sonny Bradley to equalise later in the first half. Huddersfield clinched their spot in the final after Jordan Rhodes’ late winner at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The Hatters’ last away league defeat came in December before the Lads’ victory at the weekend. The home side haven’t lost at Kenilworth Road since a defeat to Burnley in February.

Around the grounds

The second Play-Off finalist will be known on Wednesday as Middlesbrough host Coventry at the Riverside Stadium at 8pm. The two sides played out a goalless draw on Sunday at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The winners from the two games will meet on Wembley’s hallowed turf on May 27.
