International Break: Stewart called up by Scotland

Ross Stewart has received his first senior call-up for the Scotland national side.

The 25-year-old striker joins up with his new international teammates this week ahead of their friendly match with Poland at Hampden Park on Thursday night.

Scotland were also due to face the winner of the World Cup qualifying Play-Off between Wales and Austria this month for a place in Qatar at the end of the year, but this will be rescheduled due to the original postponement of their own Play-Off tie with Ukraine.

Stewart’s inspired form for Sunderland during the 2021-22 season has seen him earn his eagerly anticipated first recognition for Steve Clarke’s side, who themselves have built an impressive run of results – winning each of their last six, conceding just twice.

The front man has spearheaded the Lads’ attack by topping the Sky Bet League One scoring charts with 22 goals and counting, alongside his tireless performances up top.

You can watch Scotland take on Poland on Thursday night from 7pm on Sky Sports Football, as Stewart aims to make his bow in Glasgow.

All the best, Rossco!
