Sunderland AFC is delighted to announce the deadline-day signing of Jay Matete.
The central midfielder has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal at the Stadium of Light, arriving from Fleetwood Town for an undisclosed fee.
A mainstay in the Cod Army’s starting line-up, Matete has made 25 appearances for the Lancashire-based side during the current campaign.
The 20-year-old, who started his career at Reading, also spent time on loan at Grimsby Town last season, featuring 20 times and scoring three goals.
Matete said: “I’m delighted to sign for a club of this stature and I can’t wait to get started. Everything happened so quickly, but it’s brilliant to get the deal done and I’m excited for what the future holds. I’ve watched the club from a young age and I’m looking forward to getting out there at the Stadium of Light in front of the supporters.”
