Player preview : Wright assesses Ipswich clash

Bailey Wright is expecting a ‘tough game’ when Sunderland take on Ipswich Town tomorrow evening in Sky Bet League One.

The Black Cats face the Tractor Boys at the Stadium of Light looking to make it back-to-back wins, following Saturday’s 2-0 win at Gillingham.

Speaking to safc.com, Wright has predicted a close game ahead of Tuesday’s 7pm kick-off.

“Ipswich are an experienced side with some good players,” the defender said.

“We’re expecting a tough game for sure, but like every game, we have to just focus on ourselves and look at how we can implement our style.

“Every game is equally as important, there’s a lot of good teams to play in this league and Ipswich are certainly one of them.

“There’s some good vibes in the squad after the win on Saturday and everyone has recovered well.”

So far this season, Lee Burge and Wright are the only Sunderland players to start every league game and the latter also discussed competition for places within the squad.

He continued: “There’s going to be changes going into the big schedule, that’s the beauty of having a big squad.

“We’ve got some very talented players in training chomping at the bit to get into the starting XI, and the key for players starting is to not allow complacency to kick in.

“There’s been a few changes in defence recently, but you quickly learn to play with the different players.

“We obviously all train together and spend every day with each other, so partnerships are also built up off the pitch.

“Busy schedules are normal in football, we’ve all been in football long enough to know that a busy schedule is a normal schedule

“Having a squad like we have is our strength and we have a group that set high standards day in, day out.”
