Interview: Willis discusses clean sheets, form and Tranmere away

Jordan Willis believes there is plenty to be positive about ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Tranmere Rovers.

Sitting fifth after the latest round of fixtures, the Black Cats extended their unbeaten run to eight games following Friday’s goalless draw against Doncaster Rovers at the Stadium of Light.

During that time, Willis and co have claimed three successive clean sheets - a run which has helped seen the Lads’ backline become one of the most efficient in the league.

No team has conceded fewer goals (24) than leaders Ipswich Town, Donny and Sunderland, with Phil Parkinson’s men now five points off second having played a game less than second-place Wycombe.

Speaking to safc.com, defender Willis highlighted the determination and character of his team-mates to maintain their run and has tipped them to build on it this Wednesday at Tranmere.

"We're happy with the clean sheet," he said.

"Three in a row, we're really happy with that, credit to the whole team, front to back.

"Unfortunately, we couldn't quite get the win but hopefully we can build on it, take it into Wednesday's game [against Tranmere] and get a win there.

"Everyone is working really hard, on and off the ball, that's really helping us keeping those clean sheets," he continued.

"We're looking solid. Doncaster didn't really hurt us too much today and that's credit to the whole team.

"We've got that mentality and we need to keep that going.

"When you haven't got much to do, it's quite easy to switch off but Jon is always switched on, and when called upon he was there to do his job."
