Alim Ozturk believes the foundations are now in place for Sunderland to kick on and achieve their goal of promotion this season.

The Black Cats take on Wycombe Wanderers this Saturday at the Stadium of Light, in search of recording back-to-back wins in the league for the first time since August.

Unbeaten in their previous five games, the Lads are within a point of the play-offs after brushing aside Lincoln City on home turf last weekend.

But with Gareth Ainsworth’s table-topping side now set to provide the next challenge, the Turkish defender has told safc.com it’s another opportunity to close the gap further and apply even more pressure to those teams above them.

"We have been on a good run and taken some points from our last five games which has put us into a good position,” he said.

“It’s a good start but we want to build it from here and take more points.

“Everyone has been saying we have had a bad season, but it’s only been a bad run.

“We are starting to come close now and everyone is dropping points.

“Saturday gives us another chance to close that gap a little bit more and that’s exactly what we want to do.”
