Denver Hume: "I've always dreamt of scoring at this special place..."

Denver Hume was left feeling on cloud nine after his first career goal on Saturday.

Sunderland romped through the gears at the Stadium of Light as they brushed Wycombe Wanderers off the League One summit.

Charlie Wyke netted inside six minutes to get the Black Cats on their way before liquid football from the Lads down the right set-up Hume to crash home a superb left-footed strike shortly after.

A Chris Maguire brace – a penalty and then a spectacular free-kick – wrapped up the points for Sunderland as they moved up to six and just two wins off top.

Speaking to safc.com, Hume reviewed his first goal in red and white, admitting it was an extremely proud moment for him.

“I am buzzing,” he said.

“It has been a while and I probably should’ve had one or two before now but I am just delighted to get off the mark.

“When I saw it come across goal I just wanted to keep it down and keep it as low as possible because it was bouncing a little bit.

“You always dream of scoring at this special place and for it to contribute towards a win leaves me incredibly proud and feeling great.”

He continued: “I have improved a lot since the start of the season.

“That comes with confidence and a run of games. I feel like I am improving every game and getting better all the time.”
