Parkinson: "We will be ready"

Phil Parkinson is determined to see a response from his players this weekend against Ipswich Town.

Sunderland’s nine-game unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday when they were beaten 2-0 at Portsmouth.

The Black Cats started brightly on the south coast but were punished through two set-piece goals – from Christian Burgess and James Bolton - either side of the break.

That resulted in the Lads slipping out of the play-offs, with an important home clash against Ipswich to come next weekend.

Speaking to safc.com, Parkinson talked up the significance of the game and highlighted the need to issue a response.

“We have got to concentrate on what we have done well in recent weeks,” he said.

“In the first half when we played and switched it, we looked excellent.

“We passed it well and got into some great positions. There were two penalty decisions that went against us.

“There is contact on both the challenges, but we didn’t get them,” he continued.

“It was frustrating and then in the second half they were better than us.

“We have got to dust ourselves down and move onto next week.

"We will be ready for Ipswich Town next weekend.”
