Declan John is excited to get to work in the north east ahead of Saturday’s big League One clash with Ipswich Town.

After a whirlwind 72 hours, the Wales international checked in at Sunderland’s training base today for the first time following his loan from Swansea City until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old caught up with safc.com after meeting his new team-mates and shared his delight to join the Black Cats.

“I am very happy to be here, and it was great to get the deal over the line on Friday,” he said.

“It was a busy day, but I am looking forward to the months ahead now.

“There was a little bit of talk on Wednesday and I was able to talk to the gaffer about coming up here.

“From there everything come together, and I am now looking forward to getting started.

“I have played at some big clubs before, so I have got that experience in me,” he continued.

“I used to be at Rangers just over two years ago and now I am at this big club now.

“I know what the fans expect and there is a demand to win every week. I am excited and really looking forward to getting started.”
