Match preview: Sunderland vs Carlisle United

Sunderland continue their pre-season campaign this afternoon against Carlisle United at the Stadium of Light, (Kick-off 3pm).

The Black Cats kick-started their pre-season with a 3-1 win at Gateshead FC on Saturday, with Chris Maguire, Will Grigg and Josh Scowen on the scoresheet.

Phil Parkinson’s side welcome the Cumbrians to Wearside for the first game at the Stadium of Light in over five months.

New recruit Remi Matthews, who missed out at Gateshead on Saturday, could make his first appearance for the club.

Elliot Embleton is a slight injury concern after he limped off before the interval on Saturday as a precaution.

Last time out against the Blues, Sunderland ran out 3-1 winners in the 2018 EFL Trophy with Benji Kimpioka, Ethan Robson and George Honeyman all on target.
