Manager: Parkinson looks ahead

Phil Parkinson has laid down his expectations for the rest of pre-season, beginning with the clash against Carlisle United tomorrow.

The Stadium of Light hosts its first game in over five months when the Cumbrians make the trip to Wearside, (kick-off 3pm).

Following victory over Gateshead on Saturday, Parkinson discussed the benefits of pre-season and provided an injury update on Elliot Embleton.

“We’re looking to improve the balance of our play to make us as threatening as possible,” he said.

“There have been some good elements to our play and some things we can get better at, but that’s what pre-season is all about.

“When we move the ball quickly, we’re a difficult team to handle.”

Elliot Embleton limped off during the first half at the Gateshead International Stadium, but Parkinson revealed it was just as a precaution.

“When he went down, I was thinking I hope that’s not his hamstring, but it’s not, it’s just a bit of tightness in his thigh,” he continued.

“Elliot has been excellent in pre-season and we certainly weren’t going to risk him.”
