Full Focus: Ross on the value of no midweek game

Jack Ross is keen to make the most of no midweek game as Sunderland put all their focus into this weekend’s trip to Lincoln City.

The Black Cats travel to Sincil Bank on Saturday for a 3pm kick-off that sees them take on Michael Appleton’s newly promoted side.

Heading to Lincolnshire for the first time in 20 years, the Lads will be looking to make it three wins on the bounce as they aim keep tabs on the early pacesetters in League One.

Speaking to safc.com, the Scot hailed the character of his side after producing two big displays in response to their draw at Bolton.

Ross also admitted after five games in 14 days, no midweek game provides the perfect opportunity to rest and recover ahead of another gruelling fixture schedule.

“It was a positive week in terms of our response to last weekend,” he said.

“I am really pleased for my players and staff. The strength of character they’ve shown to do that has been pleasing.

“I am delighted that they’ve had the rewards and delighted for those supporters who have continued to give us that positive backing.

“We need them – particularly when you look at how the flow of the game changed in the second half.

“It’s encouraging for us and we will make the most of a free week because there’s been no midweek game,” he continued.

“We haven’t had many of them this season and we won’t get many in the months ahead.

“We will utilise that properly and be ready to go against Lincoln.”
