Injury update: Burge suffers thigh strain

Phil Parkinson has provided an update on stopper Lee Burge.

The ‘keeper, who has started Sunderland's last four games in all competitions, didn’t emerge for the second 45 after picking up a thigh strain in the opening period.

Jon McLaughlin came on in his place, with Parkinson confirming Burge will now miss the next couple of weeks along with Lynden Gooch.

“It’s just a slight thigh strain but we weren’t going to take a risk when we’ve got a goalkeeper of Jon’s quality on the bench,” he said.

“He won’t make Tuesday.

“It’s not a serious injury, but you are looking at a couple of weeks.”

“There are some tired legs after that game, as you’d imagine, but we will have a good chat on the coach on the way back and make the decisions for Tuesday.”
