Team news: McGeady to serve one-match suspension

Sunderland will be without Aiden McGeady for Tuesday’s League One fixture with Tranmere Rovers.

The Republic of Ireland winger picked up his fifth yellow card of the season on Saturday at Wycombe Wanderers.

As a result, McGeady will now serve a one-match suspension which forces him out of Tuesday’s home clash with Micky Mellon’s side.

Meanwhile, Phil Parkinson was unable to provide too much of an update at Monday’s press conference on Charlie Wyke after he picked up an ankle ligaments injury at Adams Park.

“Aiden picked up his fifth booking so will miss tomorrow night’s game,” he said.

“That’s obviously a blow for us because he is a key player and he produced some real moments of quality at the weekend.

“It gives other players the chance to step up. Steve (Parkin) and I are new to the job and we are looking at all the players to stake a claim.

“Charlie’s ankle doesn’t look too good,” he continued.

“He has gone for a scan on that today and we are waiting for the results of that this afternoon.

“Apart from that we don’t have any fresh injury concerns from the weekend.”
