Joel Lynch: "It's not acceptable"

Joel Lynch has admitted Saturday’s loss to Lincoln City is not acceptable.

The defender provided an honest assessment as he reflected on his first defeat in a Sunderland shirt.

After helping form the foundations of the Black Cats’ backline in the two games prior to Saturday which ended in victory, Lynch endured a frustrating afternoon at Sincil Bank on as Tyler Walker scored twice to inflict a second league defeat of the season on the Lads.

Leaving them sixth going into the October international break, the 31-year-old has pulled no punches in his verdict and admitted it can’t happen again.

“We’ve got to put it right, we’ve got to do the basics right,” he said.

“There’s pressure on us to win games but we’ve got good enough players to do it.

“It’s got to be a one-off.

“We’ve got to look back at in five or six games time, we’ve got to be back winning and brush it under the table.

“Disappointed and embarrassed as well.

“There are no words for it really.

“We have to move on from it as quick as we can. That’s all we can do.

“It just wasn’t good enough, the players out on the pitch know that, it just wasn’t good enough.

He continued: “We came into it on the back of the last two games where it’s been positive, the feeling around the place has been a lot better.

“To come here and do that is not acceptable. The players in the dressing room know it. It’s nobody else’s fault.

“You have to take it as a blip, I know I’ll get a lot of stick for saying that and everyone is upset. But you have to move on from it and we just can’t let it happen again.”
