Treatment room: Embleton injury update

Jack Ross has revealed there’s no timeline on Elliot Embleton’s recovery after he suffered a hamstring injury last Wednesday.

The midfielder pulled up on the stroke of half-time in Sunderland’s 1-0 Carabao Cup win over Sheffield United in September.

After last season was cut short due to a similar injury, Ross has admitted it’s another ‘blow’ for the youngster who started the first game of the campaign for the Black Cats.

“Nothing definitive,” he told the Chronicle when asked about the timescale of the injury.

"It's not as bad as the one he suffered at the end of last season.

"But because it's the same hamstring, we're just getting another opinion on it at the moment.

"It still won’t be a two to three week one, it'll be longer.

"It might be six to eight weeks, that's the initial prognosis at the moment.

"That could change, we'll get a second opinion."

He continued: "First and foremost, the injury is a blow for him, I've been delighted with him.

"Elliot backs himself to play, he wants to play all the time and I think we've integrated him into the squad.

"He's made appearances off the bench, he's started games, he's been good.”
