Lee Burge: "We must keep believing"

Lee Burge has back new manager Phil Parkinson to get it right at Sunderland.

Appointed on Thursday, Parkinson endured a frustrating afternoon at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday as he slipped to his first defeat.

But Burge, who made his first league start for the Black Cats at Adams Park, believes Tuesday’s game at home to Tranmere Rovers provides the ideal chance to issue and immediate response.

“It is tough to take but we have to go again on Tuesday,” he said.

“It is good that we have a game on Tuesday because it means we go can go and put things right straight away.

“Everyone wants to impress the new manager and Tuesday give us that chance to do it.

“The manager has only just walked through the door; he’s been positive in his approach.

“Saturday wasn’t our day, but we have just got to keep believing,” he continued.

“We have got to back the manager, believe in him and his methods because he has held himself really well since he walked through the door and I’m sure we will go on to good things.

“We have got quality in the team. It’s unfortunate it’s not going in for us at the minute, but it will if we continue to believe in ourselves.”
