Max Power: "We've got to get the winning mentality back"

Max Power has admitted everyone must stick together if Sunderland are to rekindle that winning feeling on Tuesday evening at Scunthorpe United.

The Black Cats travel to Sands Venue Stadium knowing only a win inside 90 minutes will be enough to progress in the Leasing.com Trophy.

The Lads have been left frustrated in their last two games, losing to Leicester City’s second string before being held at home in the Emirates FA Cup against Gillingham.

And speaking to safc.com ahead of the Lads’ final group A match in the EFL Trophy, the midfielder was honest after a disappointing set of results.

“We have got to get back to winning games,” he said.

"The performance levels have been ok, we know we can improve, and we don’t want to creep into a mentality of accepting draws and defeats.

“We have got too get that winning mentality back and it comes with hard work, believing in what we are doing and sticking together.

“I know it’s all cliché stuff but it is really true,” he continued.

“It’s tough and disappointing when you come away from today and we haven’t performed as well as we know we can.

“We didn’t win enough battles over the pitch and credit to Gillingham we couldn’t quite deal with it.”
