On this day in 2005, Sunderland celebrated collecting the Championship trophy with victory at home to Stoke.

A crowd of 47,350 made it a carnival atmosphere at the Stadium of Light but the Potters threatened to spoil the party by keeping it scoreless for 57 minutes.

Liam Lawrence's free-kick found Carl Robinson to break the deadlock and that proved enough to seal the victory for Mick McCarthy’s side.

Marcus Stewart, playing his last match for the Black Cats, could not get the goal he craved, however, he was given a standing ovation when replaced late on.
