Team news: McGeady returns to face Pompey

Jack Ross has made a host of changes for tonight’s League One Play-Off semi-final first leg against Portsmouth.

The headline team news from the Stadium of Light sees Aiden McGeady, who missed the Lads’ last two games, is named in the starting XI.

Luke O’Nien, Bryan Oviedo, Lee Cattermole, George Honeyman and Lewis Morgan are also recalled by Ross, as he makes six changes from the side that faced Southend United last weekend.

Adam Matthews, Grant Leadbitter, Chris Maguire, Lynden Gooch and Will Grigg drop to the bench, while Denver Hume misses out on the matchday squad.

Sunderland: McLaughlin, O’Nien, Ozturk, Flanagan, Oviedo, Cattermole, Power, Honeyman, Morgan, McGeady, Wyke.
Subs not used: Ruiter, Matthews, Maguire, Gooch, Grigg, Leadbitter, Dunne.
