Jack Ross is proud of the job he has done on and off the pitch at Sunderland following their Play-Off semi-final win over Portsmouth.

The Black Cats got the better of Portsmouth over two legs as Chris Maguire’s goal at the Stadium of Light was all that separated the sides after 180 minutes of action.

Speaking post-match following the Lads’ goalless draw on the south coast that was enough to seal Sunderland’s place in next Sunday’s Play-Off Final, Ross shared his immense pride.

“What we have done is rekindle that relationship between the supporters and the club,” he said.

“As a group of players, they recognise and buy into it and reflect how the fans feel about their club.

“They play with a passion and while we haven’t always played brilliantly or won games, they’ve always had that commitment.

“The supporters have responded to it and that’s shown by the numbers we’ve been backed with again tonight,” he continued.

“We now have another big game to look forward too.”
