In May 1998, Sheffield United visited the Stadium of Light leading at the midway stage in the two-legged tie. 

Sunderland needed a big performance and a result to match and they got just that as they were roared on by a packed-out Stadium of Light. 

In what was one of the best atmosphere’s seen at the SOL, more than 46,000 fans saw the Lads book their date at Wembley thanks to an own goal from Nicholas Marker and another from Kevin Phillips.
