The thought of walking out at a packed out Wembley Stadium is literally a dream come true for Sunderland Academy graduate Lynden Gooch.

Hailing from California, America, Gooch has risen through the academy ranks on Wearside and is now a first-team regular in Jack Ross' squad.

Having played a bit part role over the last two seasons which has seen the club slip out of the Premier League and into League One, Gooch is determined to put the wrongs right this term with promotion and an immediate return to the Championship well and truly on the cards.

But with the league campaign on hold this weekend, Gooch is excited about the prospect of walking out at Wembley for Sunday's Checkatrade Trophy Final showdown at Wembley against Portsmouth.

"It is hard not to sit there and think about it," he said.

"You don't want to get too carried away because you need to stay focused but of course, I've thought about walking out at Wembley and scoring a goal in a cup final - that would just be a dream come true!

"I went to the 2014 cup final with my dad and it was an amazing day when Fabio Borini scored. I had my scarf on and everything, it was a class day and something I will never forget. When we scored it was brilliant and so was the semi-final at Old Trafford."
