Sunderland AFC are delighted to announce that Elliot Embleton has signed a new contract at the Stadium of Light.
The midfielder has put pen to paper on a two-year deal, committing his future to the club and extending his stay on Wearside until the end of the 2020-21 season.
Embleton joined the club’s academy system at the age of six, rising through the ranks while also representing England at under-17, 18, 19 and 20 level.
The 20-year-old made his first-team debut in December 2017 against Wolverhampton Wanderers, before joining Grimsby Town on loan in August 2018.
During his time at Blundell Park, Embleton scored four goals in 27 League Two appearances, while also winning the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award for December.
After committing his future to the club, the midfielder said: “I’m really happy to have signed a new deal at the club and I can’t wait for the start of the season. I enjoyed my time at Grimsby Town and it was a great experience, but I’m ready for the next challenge and I’m happy to be back. I’ve been here my entire life, so I’m buzzing to be staying.”
Speaking about Embleton’s new deal, Jack Ross said: “Elliot is a talented player and I’m delighted that he has committed his future to the club. He gained valuable experience last season during his loan spell at Grimsby Town, maturing as both a player and a person, and I believe he’s ready to step up and become a valuable member of our first-team squad.”
