Team news: Maguire out for up to eight weeks

Jack Ross has revealed that Chris Maguire will be out for up to eight weeks with a fractured fibula.

The Scotsman was forced off in the first half of Sunderland’s 4-2 win over Gillingham in midweek after being called to the starting XI following an impressive display in last Friday’s draw against Accrington.

And speaking at his press conference this afternoon the Sunderland boss has confirmed the extent of Maguire’s injury, admitting he could be out ‘til the middle of April.

"Chris has a fractured fibula, so he will be out for between six and eight weeks," he said.

"He has another appointment next week to confirm he doesn't need surgery and hopefully that isn't the case.

"It's a blow for us as he's been important in terms of goals and assists."
