George Honeyman knows just how important it is for Sunderland to hold their nerve in the final run-in this season.

The Black Cats have collected six points from their previous two matches to close the gap on leaders Luton Town to just seven points.

With a game in hand on the Hatters too, Jack Ross' side are unbeaten in their previous 13 matches in all competitions but know there can't be any let up as Plymouth provide the next challenge on Saturday.

Speaking to safc.com, skipper Honeyman admitted only three points will do at this business end of the season with the games quickly running out.

“It became quite apparent that we’ve drawn a few games and at this stage of the season we need to be taking maximum points," he said.

“We have done that in the last couple of games, but I didn’t feel like we were far away even when we were drawing games.

“It has been a more solid performance in the last couple in terms of our team shape and having something to build on from there and we’ve got our rewards from it.

“We are into the back stretch of the season and now we need to go on a run to achieve our goals for the rest of the year.”
