Jack Ross paid tribute to Sunderland’s fans for sticking with the players and roaring them to victory this evening over Gillingham.

Three goals in the first 10 minutes saw both sides fly out the taps as Lee Cattermole bagged his first goal at the Stadium of Light before Tom Flanagan restored the advantage after Tom Eaves had levelled.

Brandon Hanlan then equalised in the 40th minute, but Sunderland seized full control in the second 45 as two second-half penalties from Will Grigg and Aiden McGeady secured the points.
