Duncan Watmore has been honest in his assessment of Sunderland’s recent form and has admitted only hard work and togetherness will help turn the tide.

The Black Cats travel to Gillingham this Saturday on the back of a disappointing run of form that’s seen them collect just one point from their last two league games.

Frustrated and bruised by the outcome of recent games, Watmore is determined to turn the tide this weekend at Priestfield Stadium as the Lads enter an important festive period.

“The most important thing is that everyone stays together,” he told safc.com

“Working hard is a given and we must always do the basics right.

“Everyone is putting the work in on the training pitch from the manager, to the coaches and the players.

“Everyone is in this together and we are all trying our best to make sure we turn this around so we can deliver the right results on the pitch.

“From our perspective we have just got to stay together, keep working hard and if we can do the basics right then we have a good chance of doing that.

“Our recent form is nowhere near good enough,” he continued.

“But everyone is on the same page, the manager has been great since he came in and we are fully expecting to start putting the right performances in on the pitch so we can turn our form around.”
