Team news: Ross offers McNulty update

Jack Ross is hoping to have Marc McNulty back available for Sunderland’s Sky Bet League One trip to Peterborough United next weekend.

The Scottish striker has been ruled out of Saturday’s home game with AFC Wimbledon after missing out on Tuesday’s win at Rochdale with a hamstring injury.

McNulty, 27, picked up the injury early in the second period of last weekend’s 2-1 victory over Portsmouth.

Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday’s home game with Wally Downes’ side, Ross provided the latest team news after revealing the extent of McNulty’s injury.

“Marc will still miss this weekend's game,” he said.

“The original prognosis was that he was always likely to be a couple of weeks, and the Peterborough game was always the one we had pencilled in as a possibility for his return, and that remains the case.

“He will miss the weekend, and with the greatest of respect, the Carabao Cup game plays second fiddle to the Peterborough league game, so if he is edging towards full fitness that week, then it will certainly be the Peterborough game that for us will be the more important one.

“Duncan Watmore and Ethan Robson are still absent as well,” he continued.

“Other than that, we’re as we were. Jack Baldwin was unavailable for Tuesday’s game because of illness, but he’s back training as well.”
